Energy efficiency engineer Deividas feels like a technical detective at work
27. March 2024
Deividas has been working at SOL for more than 2.5 years. He worked as a technician for a year, and for a year and a half as an energy efficiency engineer. He has previous work experience in construction, landscaping, cinemas, and heating networks, but then he decided that he wanted to further himself in the field in which he has received university education – energy engineering.
A long search and many past auditions brought Deividas and SOL together. Not only did he get the best conditions here, but during the first interview he felt a warm relationship and the culture fostered by SOL.
As Deividas says, the working day is varied, it is important to adapt to changing conditions and factors. The main assessment of energy efficiency is to inspect the object, evaluate the operation of all used devices, find defects, find solutions to improve efficiency, and then make proposals for solving problems and improving efficiency.
Half of the time is dedicated to visiting the objects, and the other half to filling out documents. The other part of the work, technical assistance, training, if necessary, to work on basic building maintenance work. Deividas is everywhere and he already has experience as a substitute team leader.
At work, what he enjoys the most is being a technical detective and searching for the root causes of problems on site. When the situation is unclear, it’s important to find out what’s wrong. Deividas can delve deep for a long time, but he considers it essential to find the answer to why something isn’t working.
According to Deividas, the most difficult task is choosing between multiple options, because the right one must be selected – especially when large sums of money are at stake. He always takes time for reflection and considers arguments for and against before making a decision.
When asked what he would do if he didn’t work at SOL, Deividas responds after some thought that he would probably return to where he has worked the longest – the cinema. It was nice to work there as a head bartender. Or he might return to an even older job – for example, giving private math lessons. After further consideration, he adds that he could also return to the heating networks field, where he worked before joining SOL.
As a child, Deividas dreamed a lot about what to be. Growing up, he liked geography, so his dream was to become a geographer. He also really enjoyed political geography, hydrology, meteorology, and geology. Geography was his favorite subject in school, and he even wanted to study it at university. However, family members and teachers advised Deividas to choose a more promising field instead, such as engineering. Geography has remained his hobby to this day.
He still likes to visit his grandfather in the village, does various sports, likes to watch movies, read books, spend time with his family, go hiking, and especially likes fishing.
During the conversation, Deividas remembered one story when he got lost in the basement of the IKI store. The flashlight ran out and he was in pitch darkness. In this large cellar, he had to walk along the wall until he found the exit. It was funny and awkward at the same time, you don’t know what your hand will rest on.
According to Deividas, his colleagues would describe him as a friendly and unpredictable coworker. His direct manager, Darius, says that Deividas has extensive knowledge and experience in the field of technical systems and facilities. He is receptive to innovations and explosively enterprising as a colleague, yet at the same time, he is a modest and benevolent team member.
Deividas himself recommends SOL primarily to young people who wish to progress in the field of technical support services. He believes that SOL is an excellent environment for learning, gaining knowledge, and starting a career – a very good and modern company.
